Estonia Digital Nomad Visa
Estonia's Digital Nomad Visa, launched in August 2020, was the world's first dedicated digital nomad visa. It allows remote workers and freelancers employed by or contracted with companies registered outside Estonia to live in Estonia for up to 12 months. It is generally non-renewable in-country — holders wishing to stay longer must convert to a different permit, such as the Startup Visa route if eligible.

Tax treatment
Estonia applies a flat 22% income tax (2026 rate — a planned increase to 24% was cancelled) if the holder spends 183+ days in Estonia in any 12-month period, triggering tax residency. A €700/month (€8,400/year) tax-free allowance applies. Staying under 183 days generally avoids Estonian tax residency. Estonia has tax treaties with 60+ countries.
